Things to do in and around Paarl
- Situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Paarl offers a great feast of attractions. Paarl is the third oldest town in South Africa and particulary know for the longest main road and for its
mountain or "Paarl Rock".
- Visit the numerous wine farms of the area, meander through the historical streets of Paarl, lined with oak trees and old Dutch buildings, or play a round of golf at Boschenmeer or Pearl Valley,
two world-class courses.
- Paarl Mountain Reserve, especially noted for the enormous 500 million year-old granite rocks (Paarl, Bretagne & Gordon) that gives Paarl it's name. The Paarl Rock is these
days a poplular mecca for rock climbers.
- The Afrikaans Language Monument, one of only 2 monuments in the world to be erected in honour of a language, is worth a visit on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, especially for the
view. Full moon picnics are a monthly occurance at the monument. Also visit the Afrikaans Language Museum situated in town.
- The Arboretum with 700 indigenous and exotic trees. A footbrige over the Bergriver gives acces to paved walkways on the river bank.
- The Bird Sanctuary along the banks of the Bergriver features more than 130 species of birds and are well known under bird watchers.
- Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm
- Laborie Wine Estate for their Lazy days Market each Saturday morning.
